Dennis Uy's Lead DITO Telecom Set Sights on 2021 Commercial Launch

The Dennis Uy-led DITO Telecom set sights on the 2021 commercial launch of the third telecom network in the country.



The company is bent on meeting its launch target in March 2021 wile it fends off espionage concerns over strategic partner international partner, the state-owned company, China Telecom.



DITO Telecom already annnounced the completion of 859 cell sites as of September 13, 2020 and by October 2020, the company would be finishing 1,300 sites, allowing it to meet the initial population coverage of 37 percent.

The network coverage of the third telco player set to compete against PLDT and Globe would be validated by the government and independent auditor in January 2021, the new deadline of the company after six-month extention, citing delays drom the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to DITO Chief Technology Officer Rodolfo Santiago, based on latest figure, the company is more than ready for the technical audit. The company also planned to end this year with over 2,000 celll sites.



Apart from the wireless infrastructure, DITO Telecom has completed 5,701 kilometers of internet cables.

Dito, backed by Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy and state-owned China Telecom, released new updates while dismissing concerns its network would become a spying tool for China.The worries come amid the Duterte administration’s warm embrace of Beijing despite Chinese encroachment in the West Philippine Sea.
