Controversial and popular member of the law enforcement agency, Police Major Jovie Espenido, who is linked to the deaths of two alleged narco politicians, has reportedly been assigned to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
According to the information presented by Police Lieutenant Joem Malong, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office (PRO-6), confirmed this Tuesday at the sidelight of the "fiesta"at Camp Delgado in Iloilo City.
Lt. Malong showed a copy of the memorandum from the Philippine National Police (PNP) national headquarters that states the transfer of Major Espenido's assignment from Northern Mindanao to Bacolod City in Negros Occidental.
According to some information from various sources, based on the rank of the anti-narco cop, it is most likely that Espenido will become a station commander.
Major Espenido is only a Major and not a Police Colonel, which is a requirement to become Police Chief for a highly urbanized ciy such as in Bacolod City.
Before the news report about the possible transfer of Espenido to Bacolod, earlier this year, Pres. Rody Duterte fired then Bacolod City Police Chief Francis Ebreo and four other cops for allegedly protecting elements of the illegal drug trade.
Espenido has also been handpicked by Pres. Rody Duterte to become Iloilo City Police Chief, but the assignment of Espenido did not materialize because the police chief has a rank of a Major.
During that time, Pres. Duterte verbally attacked the former Mayor of Iloilo City, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, whom the President accused of being engaged in the illegal drug trade in the city under his jurisdiction.
Major Jovie Espenido made a name for himself after he led police operations that killed Mayors Rolando Espinosa Sr. of Albuera, Leyte and Reynaldo Parojinog of Ozamiz City. Both Mayor Espinosa and Mayor Parojinog were on the President's list of drug protectors.
