Watch: Netizens Slams VP Leni Robredo for Defending Maria Ressa Against Arrest (Nakakalungkot, Nakakabahala)
Netizens took to social media as they slammed Vice President Leni Robredo for allegedly defending Maria Ressa after the Rappler reporter was arrested by some elements of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
The arrest warrant against Maria Ressa was due to the case filed by businessman Wilfredo Keng, over an article published by Rappler titled “CJ using SUVs of controversial businessman” during the impeachment trial of the late former Chief Justice Renato Corona.
Due to the arrest of Maria Ressa, the Vice President of the Philippines and considered as the leader of the opposition, Vice Pres. Leni Robredo was asked for her reactions on the said arrest of Rappler's Maria Ressa.

VP Leni Robredo was quoted as saying ""Nakakalungkot kasi... Ito ay isa namang yugto na nagpapakita sa atin kung gaano iniipit yong mga naglalakas ng loob na makapagsalita, laban sa mga polisiya ng administrasyon."
The Vice President added further that "Ito... napakalaking.. napakalaking dagok ito sa press freedom, napakalaking warning na binibigay sa anyone na magkakaroon ng lakas ng loob na magpahayag ng kanilang saloobin ay napaparusahan." VP Leni Robredo stated.
VP Leni Robredo's statement was mocked down by netizens as they slammed the second highest official of the land reminding the real issue and the case filed against Maria Ressa which is not related to press freedom.
Netizens also cited the case of Maria Ressa has nothing to do with Pres. Duterte because the cyber libel case was filed by a private individual, in this case, a businessman whose reputation was tarnished due to the article posted by Rappler, which Ressa heads.
