The construction of the highly anticipated and ambitious project of the Duterte administration, the Metro Manila Subway will officially start this coming February 27, 2019. The Mega Manila Subway Project is considered as the most ambitious program of the Duterte administration.
According to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade, the official construction of the mega project will start this coming February 27, as confirmed by the DOTr Chief during his visit to Japan.
Secretary Tugade visited Japan for an inspection of the modern boring machine will be used in the highly anticipated megaproject, the very first subway tunnel system in the Philippines.
The head of the DOTr wanted to debunk all naysayers and critics who stated earlier that the subway system project as a mere dream of the Duterte administration.
Sec. Tugade was quoted as saying "The Metro Manila Subway is the Philippines' first-ever underground railway system. Before, people cast doubts and said it is all but a dream. But, on February 27, we will show them that this is real," DOTr Secretary stated.
The DOTr officials visited at least two tunnel boring machines company to inspect the machinery together with the other DOTr officials and their Japanese counterparts.
Sec. Tugade went first to JIM Technology Corporation in Yokohama. The company is considered as Japan's most popular tunnel boring machines company. The DOTr also visited Hitachi Zosen's Sakai Wors (HZSW) factory in Osaka. Hitachi already made at least 3,000 tunneling machines and has a record of making at least 130 tunnels in Japan alone.
Once completed, the Metro Manila Subway Project will feature at least 15 stations in 2022 and in 2025, it will be fully operational.
