South Korea Donates 25 Police Cars to Police Regional Office 7 (PRO-7)

The South Korean government through Consul General Sung Yung donates at least 25 Police Cars to Police Regional 7 (PRO 7) in Cebu City. The donation included 22 Hyundai Accent sedands and three Hyundai vans.

According to Consul General Oh Sung Yung, the donation of police vehicles to PRO-7 was the Korean government's way of "thanking the police for protecting their nationals in Cebu."

The South Korean Consul General particularly thanked PRO-7 for solving the death of Lee Yung Ho, a Korean national who was shot dead in a motel last August.

“It’s a gesture of partnership and cooperation with the police. We appreciate their efforts for protecting and taking good care of the Koreans in Cebu,” said Yong.

The Korean official added further that they just wanted to help the investigation capabilities of the police particularly in the Province of Cebu.

Chief Supt. Debold Sinas of PRO-7 said that the donated vehicles will be distributed to various police offices in the Province of Cebu. The new police cars will help improve police visibility and crime solutions, Sinas said.

Three of the brand new police vehicles will go to PRO 7, five to the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, six to the Mandaue City Police Office and 11 to the Cebu City Police Office.

Aside from the police cars, the South Korean Consulate Office will also donate 145 motorcycles to the PRO 7 within the year, Yong said.

The South Korean Consul General was quoted as saying "We will also help for the training of the police to improve their investigation skills," Yong said.

Yong also pointed out that South Koreans still feel safe despite the recent spate of killings in Cebu. He was quoted as saying "I don’t think Cebu is unsafe. The police are doing their job. More Koreans are coming here and it is a manifestation that they feel safe in Cebu," said Yong.

The PRO 7 director assured the safety of the Koreans in Central Visayas.

“We thank the generosity of the South Korean Consulate Office. We will help protect the Korean tourists and will be having a dialog to enhance security measures,” said Sinas.
