One of Pres. Rody Duterte's most ambitious project in the Philippines, the Mindanao Railway Project secured its funding for the year 2019 through the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2019.
The funds of the first segment of the Mindanao Railway System (MRS) project covering Tagum-Davao-Digos (TDD) area is already included in the 2019 budget of the national government according to the confirmation released to the media by Dr. Adrian Tamayo.
Dr. Adrian Tamayo is the public relations head of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) told Tuesday's Davao Business Forum that the TDD segments costs PHP126 billion was already included in the GAA.
MinDA also revealed that of the total project cost, P89-billion is funded under 2018 GA, and P30 billion for GAA 2019 under the Department of Transportation (DOTr). The P7 billion would come from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).
The first segment of the Mindanao Railway System or the TDD Segment has a total length of 102 kilometers for the two-track electric train system. It includes alignment stations located in Tagum City, Carmen, Panabo City, Tibungco in Gimbang Davao City towards the Diversion Road to Toril and the Davao del Sur areas in Sta. Cruz and Digos City.
Dr. Tamayo, the head of MinDA Public Relations also said that the ground works will be done in phases, adding the other permitting requirements that still needed compliance with are the Environment Clearance Certificate (ECC) and the Road Right of Way (RRW).
Tamayo said the governmet is also currently working for the establishment of a project management office here before the term of President Rodrigo Duterte ends in 2022, to ensure the continuity of the project beyond the term of the present administration.
The Mindanao Railway Project is considered as one of the most ambitious infrastructure project of the Duterte administration under his massive Build, Build, Build Infrastructure Program which aims to industrialized the country in the next five to ten years.
