SAP Bong Go Slams Rappler's Pia Ranada for Fake News About Cagayan Officials Visiting Malacañang

President Rody Duterte's most trusted aide, Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go slammed controversial Rappler reporter Pia Ranada for spreading fake news anew. SAP Bong Go described the news article reported by Pia Ranada as "malicious."

Rappler's Pia Ranada reported that SAP Bong Go had invited officials of Cagayan for a tour of Malacañang just before typhoon “Ompong” (Mangkhut) made landfall in the province.

Pia Ranada stated on her report that "On eve of Ompong landfall, Bong Go invites Cagayan officials to Palace tour," claiming that Cagayan officials "enjoyed their Malacañang trip as their province was placed under Storm Signal No. 4 due to Ompong."

SAP Bong Go explained the real situations behind the fake news brought about by Rappler, as he noted that he invited the Cagayan officials two weeks ago and had laready advised them about postponing their activity. However, the officials still showed up.

The trusted man of the President was quoted as saying "Two weeks ago pa ‘yan nakipag (they scheduled an) appointment sa'min ni (with us and) ES (Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea) pero (but) three days ago we advised them not to proceed para attend nila lugar nila (their province),” Go said in a statement.

“Alam ni Vice Gov. Vargas pero tumuloy pa din sila with ES (Cagayan Vice Gov. Vargas knew this but they still pushed through),” he added.

SAP Bong Go also questioned how Rappler and Pia Ranada was able to write the story when she has been barred from covering Malacañang. Pres. Duterte released an order last February, invoking executive action by issuing a directive to ban Pia Ranada from covering Malacañang events. They can only return to the Palace to cover again if SEC would declare Rappler as 100 percent Filipino.

The controversial report of Rappler was also denied by officials from Cagayan Province as Tuguegarao Councilor Maila Ting-Que, said that Rappler made it appear that they were only invited for a "tour of the Palace," when they were also invited to discuss matters concerning the province. They also left as soon as the 30-minute meeting with Secretary Medialdea was done and traveled back to Cagayan.
