OFW Shares Horrible Experience with Airline Staffs But With DFA's Help, Felt How Government Works

An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) traveling from Manila to Singapre shared her horrible experience with Cebu Pacific Staff who denied her from boarding because of minor water damage in her passport but with the help of an Immigration and DFA Staff assigned at the airport of her departure she was able to board the plane and felt how importance she is an OFW and how the Duterte government worked for them.

The OFW was identified as Riezel Obidos who was told by the Cebu Pacific staff during the incident that she should renew her passport first which will take 7-15 days for her to be able to return to Singapore. Obidos stated that the minor damage of her passport was the main reason of the airline staff to deny her boarding.

One of the immigration staff talked to Cebu Pacific Staff to allow her boarding but the efforts failed as she was still denied clearance to board the plane telling Obidos that different countries have different regulations. This time around, the OFW went to a DFA counter, an initiative by the Duterte admin through Sec. Alan Peter Cayetano, and inform them what happened, someone from the DFA ssisted her to talk to Cebu Pacific staffs but denied again explaining that the company will be fined once she will be allowed to board, despite the fact that she will be jobless once failed to board the plane.

The DFA employees made an extra efforts to help the OFW, and for the first time in the OFWs 9 years of experience as an OFW she felt how importance she was in the sight of the government as the DFA employees in Manila handover her problems to the Embassy of the Philippines in Singapore, they waited until she was able to arrived at the Singapore airport, went out of the Singapore terminal and arrived at her exact destination, to make sure that if problems will occur, DFA employees will be able to help her.

Here's the Complete Story of the OFW:

Horrible experience happened last night with CEBU PACIFIC staffs (girl at the counter together with her supervisor)! CEBU PACIFIC STAFF denied me from boarding (Manila to Singapore) because of minor water damage in my passport. The 2 ladies from CEBU PACIFIC told me to renew my passport first in Philippines which will take 7-15 days for me to be able to return to Singapore.

The chip page and the numbers across the bottom are still machine readable and looks fine, in other words, my passport is in good condition, even the immigration officer from the Philippines advise me that my passport is fine and I can use it as long as it’s readable.

One of the immigration staffs (not the officer) helped me and talked to the CEBU PACIFIC but still they refused to let me in and told us that different countries have different regulations. I went to DFA counter (Thank God they were at the airport) and inform them what happened, someone assisted me to talk to CEBU PACIFIC but as expected they denied me again and told us if they will allow me to fly and be deported from the airport of Singapore they will be fined. CEBU PACIFIC staffs are so afraid to be fined giving the repercussions of me being jobless but DFA employees are different.

They went to CEBU PACIFIC counter again, this time 3 personnel from DFA talked to the airlines and asked why I was being denied from flying. For the first time in my 9 years plus of being an OFW, I felt my importance when I saw them fighting for my rights. After the discussion, CEBU PACIFIC finally agreed to let me fly but DFA will sign the waver (not sure what it was but I’ve heard “kung sakali daw ma A to A ako” the fine will be charged to DFA).

Di pa dun natatapos, DFA hand me over to Embassy of the Philippines in Singapore, my arrival was 2am today, they waited until makalabas ako ng airport para if any issues andun sila for me.

Without them I can’t fly yesterday night, so these people really deserve a shout out. Thank you so much po sainyo, I really appreciate your help, Saludo po ako sainyo.

God bless!
Please free to share this po para malaman ng iba naten ka-OFW na our government will always be here for us.
