Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the allegations of a former Naga City Councilor, Luis Ortega, about the alleged involvement of the brother of DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo, Butch Robredo, the brother-in-law of VP Leni Robredo in the illegal drug trades in Naga City should be investigated.
The alleged protector and mastermind of illegal drug trades in Naga City, Butch Robredo is now hiding in the United States according to some intelligence reports. The statement of Luis Ortega supported the earlier pronouncement of Pres. Rody Duterte that Naga City is the hotbed of illegal drugs in the Bicol Region.
According to the expose of Ortega, the Vice President of the Philippines, Vice President Leni Robredo and other local officials are aware of the drug problem in the City of Naga where the late Jesse Robredo led during his stint as Naga City Mayor.
In an interview with DzRH, Spox Harry Roque stated that "Ito ay isang development na dapat talagang imbestigahan,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in an interview on radio dzRH.
“Importante pong malaman natin ang katotohanan dito, dahil naninilbihan din sa bayan ang ating Bise Presidente at kung may mga ganitong pangyayari, dapat malaman natin anong mga hakbang na ginawa ni Bise Presidente, para mapatupad ang batas sa sarili niyang siyudad at sa sarili niyang mga kapamilya.”
In an earlier report, Pres. Duterte called Naga a "hotbed of shabu" to boost his argument against the leadership ability of VP Leni Robredo, his Constitutional successor whom he deemed incompetent to tackle the country's pressing problems including the drug menace.
VP Leni Robredo and the officials of the Naga City local government cried foul over Pres. Duterte's claim, they even passed a resolution that said it "cannot remain silent over this deep insult hurled against the dignity of Nagueños, but with recent development, there's something need to be done to investigate the problem.
