The New Mactan-Cebu International Airport, envisioned to be "World's Friendliest Resort Airport," the MCIA's new passenger terminal building is set to be inaugurated tomorrow, June 7, 2018, but before that day happens, the DOTr posted a sneak peek photos of the modern Philippine airport on their official social media account.
The MCIA's new passenger terminal building in Mactan Island will increase the airports annual passenger capacity from 4.5 million to 12 million.
The very first resort airport in the Philippines, will be utilizing energy-efficient and environment-friendly facilities to reduce the terminal's impact to the environment.
President Rody Duterte would be among the guests who would attend the inauguration of the P17.5-billion Terminal 2 of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA). President of the GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. (GMCAC), Louie Ferrer confirmed to the media that the President of the Philippines will graced the highly-anticipated event tomorrow.
According to GMCAC, although the inauguration will be held on June 7, the actual operations of the airport will officially start on July 1, as stated on their concession agreement but between the inauguration and the official opening, GMCAC will open Terminal 2 on certain days for the public and guests to visit.
The 65,500-square meter terminal is designed by Hong Kong-based Integrated Design Associates (IDA) together with local designers Budji Layug, Royal Pineda and Cebu's very own Kenneth Cobonpue.
