Asec Kris Ablan Reports Updates on the Rehabilitation Efforts of Boracay Island (Photos)

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Associate Secretary Kris Ablan personally visited Boracay Island as he reported the recent updates on the rehabilitation efforts of Boracay Island.

According to Asec Kris Ablan he went to Boracay together with the RTVM over the weekend to report on the conditions of the island, one month after President Rody Duterte ordered it closed for rehabilitation. Asec. Ablan stated that much has changed in 30 days of rehabilitation.

The main road according to Asec Ablan is now being widened from 9 meters to 12 meters and any structures along the way are being cleared by the DPWH. The new main road of Boracay also include a separate bikeway aside from the new constructed bypass road on the other side, intended for delivery vans and other logistics vehicles.

Asec. Ablan also noted that the beach front from Station 1 to 3 have been cleared and all structures built within the 25 meter easement from the coast line, have been self demolished by the business owners. DENR, the head of the inter-agency task force, have initiated the clearing of the illegal settlers on Boracay's wetlands.

Here's the Complete Report of PCOO Asec Kris Ablan:

I went to Boracay with RTVM over the weekend to report on the conditions of the island one month after the President ordered it closed for rehabilitation.

Much has changed in 30 days. The main road is being widened from 9 meters to 12 meters. Any structures along the way are being demolished. According to DPWH, the new main road will include a separate bikeway.

DPWH is also constructing a bypass road on the other side, intended for delivery vans and other logistics vehicles.

The beach front from Station 1 to 3 have also been cleared. Any structures built within the the 25 meter easement from the coast line, have been, interestingly, self demolished by the business owners.

DENR, the head of the inter-agency task force, have initiated the clearing of the illegal settlers on Boracay's wetlands. DENR has coordinated with Malay, Kalibo, and Aklan LGUs for the relocation of affected families.

Coliform in the water is still visible, but way less than compared to March. DENR is confident that waters will be safe to swim in before the end of 6 months.

TIEZA has begun building the new, larger and longer discharge pipe from Bulabog beach to 1 kilometer out to sea.

DILG and PNP are maintaining peace and order with over 600 police officers patrolling the island. While establishments are closed and empty, the crime rate is low at 11 cases reported this May. I walked around during the day, and night, and felt very safe.

If all these can be done in just one month, imagine the changes after six. I am optimistic that Boracay will come out of this stronger, better, and more beautiful.

Sharing with you some photos I took of my trip.
