Senate Pres. Koko Pimentel Orders Arrest of Ex-Poll Chief Andres Bautista

One of the country's most prominent lawmaker, Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel signed an arrest order against former Commission on Election (COMELEC) Chairman Andres Bautista for his failure to attend the Senate Hearings on his Alleged Questionable Bank Accounts.

The arrest order against Andres Bautista was given to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms who was tasked to deliver the written order to Bautista's known addresses. The Senate decided to released the arrest order of former Comelec Cast ommissioner after he repeatedly failed to attend the Senate probe against his unexpalined wealth.

According to Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero, chair of the Committe on Banks, Financial Institutions and Currencies, the arrest order was given by Senate Pres. Pimentel as he signed the order together with Senate Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) Jose Balajadia last Wednesday.

In an interview with Inquirer, Escudero said in a text message that "OSAA will try to serve it by coordinating with various law enforcement agencies including the Bureau of Immigration and wait for it to be returned, served or unserved and will submit a corresponding report to the committee,” Escudero said. The Senator also said that the committee will schedule another hearing before Congress adjourns in March 2018.

The Committee of Sen. Escudero earlier cited former Comelec Commissioner Andy Bautista for contempt and ordered his arrest, adding that a warrant would be served on him so he could be delivered to the Senate when he returns to the country.

Former Commissioner Bautista on his part, said in a letter that he had not received any invitation to appear before the Senate committee's inquiry. He noted that he was out of the country since November 21 last year to "explore professional opportunities" and "seek assistance for certain medical challenge" he was facing.

The estranged wife of former Commissioner Bautista, Patricia Bautista, has been accusing his husband of allegedly amassing nearly P1-billion worth of unexplained wealth, and of owning more than 30 bank accounts with the Luzon Development Bank's (LDB) amounting to P329 million.
