Must Watch: Former Navy Chief Vice Admiral Ronald Mercado Clears SAP Bong in the Frigate Deal (Video)

The former Philippine Navy Chief, Vice Admiral Ronald Mercado stressed during his opening statement that Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Bong did not express any special interest and never intervened in the controversial frigate deal which was initiated during the term of former Pres. Noynoy Aquino.


Vice Admiral Ronald Mercado was quoted as saying "Secretary Bong Go never approached me to inquire about the frigate acquisition project neither did he make any form of communication to influence my decision making as the end-user and flag officer in command of the Philippine Navy.

As a closing statement Admiral Mercado thanked the Senate for providing the venue to present information in the frigate acquisition project. He noted that he is one with them in insuring that the men and women of the Philippine Navy is provided with the right warship that they can deploy, operate and maintain to deliver its mandate to protect our seas. 

The name of SAP Bong Go was dragged to the controversial frigate deal issue a few days after Rappler and Inquirer made a well-publicized article accusing Go of intervening in the controversial frigate deal. 

Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano and Sen. Antonio Trillanes were the two members of the opposition who insists their fellow lawmakers to conduct a Senate investigation.
