International Political Analyst Lectures Sen. Grace Poe About Federalism

International political analyst and considered as one of the most vocal netizen promoting Federalism Movement for the Philippines in social media, Orion Perez D lectures one of the country's lawmaker and former presidential bet, Sen. Grace Poe about the issue of Federalism.

Orion Perez shared a newspaper clippings wherein Sen. Grace Poe stated the Federalism is not a "magic pill" to address all the country's problems, before the lawmakers decide on how to amend the 1987 Constitution, the senator urged her fellow lawmaker to answer on what they want to achieve.

She also stated that they should look also to strengthen local autonomy because some issues are better addressed through amending the Local Government Code. The senator also noted that we need stronger institutions not strongmen and stated further that we should enact the FOI and Anti-Dynasty Bills in order to ensure meaningful participation of peopel in government, with or without federalism.

The veteran internatioanl political analyst, Orion Perez D, disagreed with the statement released by Sen. Grace Poe especially her understanding of the significance of Federalism in the Philippines.

According to Perez, Sen. Grace Poe should disabuse herself of that myth that the people who are pushing for Federalism and other constitutional reforms ever claimed that these would be a silver bullet that would solve our problems.

The international analyst argued with the statement of Sen. Poe, because no one ever said that Federalism is the magic pill that will address of the country's problems. He furthere lectured Poe by saying that Federalism ALONE is not what we are trying to establish but we need these three reforms.

Here's the Complete Statement of Orion Perez D:

Senator Grace Poe:

Please disabuse yourself of that myth that we who have been pushing for Federalism and the other necessary constitutional reforms ever claimed that these would be a silver bullet that would solve all our problems.

NO ONE ever said that Federalism is the magic pill that will address all of our country’s problems! NO ONE!

Secondly, Federalism ALONE is not what we are trying to establish. We need these three reforms:

1) Removal of anti-FDI restrictions in order to allow more job-creating foreign investors to come in and help reduce our unemployment problem

2) Federalism in order to spread out the jobs created by number 1 to all the regions and provinces.

3) Shift to the Parliamentary System in order to avoid personality politics that is based on popularity and name recall and shift to a more party and platform centric system that is proven by numerous studies to be superior, more efficient, more stable, more accountable, and less prone to corruption than the presidential system...

All these combined aim to give us a BETTER ENABLING ENVIRONMENT for us to address our country’s problems.

No one ever said that these will act as a magic pill.
