Netizens Criticized NPA for Ambushing Soldiers Assisting & Providing Relief to Bagyong Urduja Victims

Netizens took to social media and criticized some members of the New People's Army (NPA) after they ambushed soldiers assisting and providing relief to victims of tropical storm "Urduja" in Northern Samar, wounding two soldiers and sending typhoon-affected residents in panic.

According to the soldiers from the 20th Infantry Battalion (20IB) they were attacked by an estimated 50 terrorists who were identified as members of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) armed wing the New People's Army (NPA).

The NPA attacked happened during the time when the soldiers were conducting Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response Operations to typhoon victims in Barangay Hinagoyonan, Catubig town in Northern Samar.

The 20IB condemned the atrocity conducted by the alleged members of the CPP-NPA, which the military said was a clear violation of the International Humanitarian Law.

The Philippine Army also noted that the attacked by the NPA rebels and the ensuing firefight caused panic among the already distressed townsfolk, who were already devastated by the onslaught of Bagyong Urduja.

Most netizens on social media condemned the attacked by the NPA during a time when the lives of ordinary citizens were at stake due to Bagyong Urduja.
