Netizens took to social media as they applauded the Duterte administration's handling of rehabilitation in the war-torn Marawi City particularly the speedy construction of temporary shelters which can be distributed and used by the evacuees in just a few months after the Marawi siege.
According to the national government through the Bangon Marawi Program, transitional or temporary shelters are now ready for occupancy in some Barangay of Marawi City. Netizens were so glad with the good news and some of them even compared how Pres. Duterte handled the rehab compared to how PNoy did the Yolanda rehab program.
Watch How the Duterte Admin Handled the Marawi Rehab:
In Barangay Sagonsongan, Marawi City, the transitory shelters of the evacuees and victims of Marawi siege were constructed by the national government in participation of various national agencies such as the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), National Housing Authority (NHA), and the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The national agencies were under the supervision of the newly-created Task Force Bangon Marawi in coordination with the LGU of the Islamic City of Marawi City, Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur and the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) who worked together for the completion of the said temporary housing project.
According to HUDCC Assistant Secretary Felix Castro Jr., Task Force Bangon Marawi Field Office Manager, in the distribution of temporary shelters they will prioritize those victims who were already homeless which means their homes were already damaged during the Marawi siege.
Aside from the homeless Marawi City residents, the Task Force will also give priority to those residents who were living near the danger zones of the city.
The Task Force Bangon Marawi revealed that the first batch of temporary shelters which will be distributed to the families of homeless Marawi residents are around 500 shelters.
The Duterte admin also promised that they will not only build transitory houses but also a community. The Task Force will also construct some establishments which will provide the residents with their primary needs such the construction of mosques, schools (madrasah), temporary learning spaces, health care centers, wet and dry market, livelihood centers, PNP-Barangay outpost, and transport terminal.
