DICT Confirms China Telecom Philippines FB Page as Fake & Should be Taken Down

Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Information and Communications Technology Eliseo Rio told some national news media outlets that the viral promo of the newly created Facebook Page, China Telecom Philippines is indeed fake and should be taken down immediately because of spreading fake information on social media.

The DICT confirmed on Friday about the said FB Page that it is fake and only took advantage of the popularity of China Telecom, one of the reported companies interested to enter the Philippine telecom industry after Pres. Duterte confirmed to the public that there is indeed a third telecom player to compete against Globe and PLDT.

DICT Officer-in-Charge Eliseo Rio told GMA News Online that "Confirmed na fake po 'yun, fake FB Page ng China Telecom. We already confirmed it sa China Telecom and in fact pinapatanggal na nila sa Facebook," Rio stated.

In an earlier post, the controversial but fake Facebook Page asked netizens if the Chinese telecommunications firm is welcome in the Philippines for a chance to win a free one year subscription of 200 megabits per secon (Mbps) internet speed when it opens in the country.

From the original China Telecom Philippines FB Page, they changed their name to CTPG Philippines as they explained that they do it to follow Facebook standards. Although the name of the page was taken down the FB page URL remained but they change it to Barbie Forteza FB Page.

The DICT advised netizens to be vigilant in sharing and believing posts seen on social media. They should be careful in sharing information because there's a huge tendency that when a trusted person could see the post they will also share it with their friends.

Eliseo Rio added further that "Bago siguro i-share ang mga nakita sa social media, siguraduhin muna na ito ay hindi fake... If its too good to be true then it's not true," the DICT Official said.

As of press time, the said Fake China Telecom Philippines Facebook Page is already taken down and all their posts were no longer available on social media.
