Police Captain of Binuangan Police Station in Misamis Oriental and his 22 gallant men successfully defends the police station as they withstood the rain of bullets and grenades from an estimated more than 200 communist rebels who were members of the terrorist group, New People's Army (NPA).
The 200 communist rebels tried to lay siege and burn the Binuangan Police Station but they failed due to the heroics of the police station and its men and they even drove away the communist rebels.
Binuangan Police Station Chief of Police (COP) Senior Inspector Dante Hallazgo and three of his men were injured during the three-hour gun battle, when they were hit with shrapnel from an M204 grenade launcher fired by the attacking NPA.
Aside from the four wounded, the fifth wounded official is a certain SPO4, one of the 23 cops who valiantly stood their ground and defended the local police station in Misamis Oriental.
According to Chief Supt. Timoteo Pacleb, director of the Northern Mindanao Regional Office, the communist rebels were actually combined forces of NPA units operating in Eastern part of Mindanao, particularly that of Manuelito Satur alias Ka Muson, Oscar Romania, alias Amboy and alias Makong Mansigyaw.
Supt. Pacleb was quoted as saying "The firefight lasted about three hours wherein PNP personnel fought hard and defended their police station despite the NPA strength," Pacleb said.
The Northern Mindanao Regional Office Chie also added that "They failed on their attack to the police station and failed to get their firearms and retreated in the hinterlands," Supt. Pacleb added.
Meanwhile Senior Inspector Corinne Masy Estigoy, spokesperson of the Misamis Oriental Provincial Police, said the attack occurred at around 3:00 AM today, December 3, 2017 by more than 200 communist rebels.
The attack in Misamis Oriental is the latest of the series of attacks carried out by the communist NPA rebels. Over the weekend, they killed a policeman and wounded six others in an ambush in Camarines Norte.
