The Philippine Consulate General in New York wishes to bring your attention the photograph printed on page 8 of the United States President Donald J. Trump and Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte with the highly inflammatory caption, "Here's to my fave murderer."

The accompanying brief photograph write-up clearly points to the aforementioned caption referring to the President of the Philippines.

Characterizing a democratically-elected head of state and Government in this manner is the height of journalistic irresponsibility and malice.

President Duterte enjoys broad support from and the trust of the Filipino people for his candor, patriotism, governance skills, leadership, and genuine desire to move the Philippines forward. Despite what your writer describes as "his clenched-fisted, expletive-filled rants" , he is precisely loved by Filipinos for his raw honesty. he has in just a little over a year at the helm of government effected profound and ground-breaking changes to make the lives of Filipinos better.

The labels attached to the President by some media establishments such as your recent publication betray a sad lack of journalistic standards and understanding of political context of the Philippines.

That label is obviously based on the false perception that the Philippine Government is involved in the indiscriminate killing of drug offenders. A responsible publication would have investigated and seen that this is clearly not the policy of the government as seen by the fact that around a million drug offenders have surrendered and are under rehabilitation.

Need we remind you that the Philippines is a thriving democracy, with one of the freest presses in the world as unfettered judiciary. Any allegations of state-sponsored killings without any sufficient basis are merely allegations.

President Duterte has won wide respect for his astute and efficient Chairmanship of the recently concluded ASEAN Summit this month. The fact that your paper chose to take an unfounded and malicious tack in featuring an event during the Philippines' ASEAN Chairmanship disrespects not only President Duterte and the Office he holds but also the millions of Filipinos the world over, including those in the United States.

We would hope that some rectification is in order and that common decency prevail in the determination of content in your publication.

Thank you for your time and attention.
