Ombudsman Dismissed Jed Patrick Mabilog as Mayor of Iloilo City

The controversial Mayor of Iloilo City Jed Patrick Mabilog who is also a close relative of Sen. Franklin Drilon was dismissed by the Office of the Ombudsman as mayor of the city due to his alleged involvement in a plunder case.

Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officer II Rachel Cariaga-Favila signed the 13-page decision wherein the Ombudsman found Mayor Mabilog guilty of 'serious dishonesty relative to unlawful acquisition of wealth.'

The Ombudsman also ruled that Mabilog cannot run to any other public office and he’s now ineligible to receive retirement benefits from the government.

Overall Deputy Ombudsman Melchor H. Carandang approved the decision of the Office of the Ombudsman on October 6, 2017.

The 'plunder, dishonesty, grave misconduct and perjury' case against Mabilog was filed by former Iloilo provincial administrator Manuel Mejorada during the year 2015.

Based upon the complaint of Mejorada, the wealth of Mayor Jed Mabilog suddenly increased by P50 Million when he became the Mayor of Iloilo City. Mejorada also added on his complaint that Mayor Mabilog did not disclose his exact net worth in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) on 2014.

Mejorada questioned how the Iloilo City Mayor gained so much wealth and built a luxury mansion beside Iloilo River despite of just being a City Mayor and only having a small business. The former administrator and veteran writer Mejorada also pointed out that Mabilog failed to explain in his SALN where did he got the money that used to build his mansion.

The Mabilog Mansion made headlines on social and mainstream media after President Duterte describe Mabilog's house as "like a palace."

Mayor Mabilog did not release any official statement yet on the latest ruling of the Office of the Ombudsman against him, he is still on a sick leave outside the country.

Pres. Duterte also warned Mayor Mabilog that he's the next target of the administration because of his alleged involvemnet in illegal drug.

The President was quoted as saying "The mayor of Iloilo City, I identified him, I said: You’re next, you’re next,” Duterte said in a speech during the commemorative session and concert program of the Association of Southeast Asean Nations Law Association (ALA) in MalacaƱang.

Last week, a bag man of Berya Drug group implicated Mabilog as one of the top illegal drug protector in Visayas. He claimed Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog was a drug protector of late Melvin Odicta Sr., head of the Odicta group. The bag man even implicated Senator Franklin Drilon and former Presidential candidate Mar Roxas as alleged drug protectors.
