The tough-talking President of the Philippines, Pres. Rody Duterte revealed during a speech that his staunchest critic, Senato Leila De Lima will be facing another charge aside from alleged drugs connection, this time in connection with the unconstitutional DAP.
Pres. Duterte stated that the detained senator will be facing charges soon in connection the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) implemented during the administration of former Pres. Benigno Aquino III.
The President's announcement was made during a speech at the conferment rites of the Gawad Executive Service and the 2017 Outstanding Government Workers held at Malacañang's Rizal Hall.
Pres. Duterte was quoted as saying "De Lima, she has a case coming up related to DAP. I could not believe really whenever we talk about it (her involvement there)," Duterte said in his speech. "This woman has done too much. She's really thick-faced," he added.
Although the President already revealed the possible case against De Lima, the chief executive did not reveal further nor provide details regarding the senator's supposed involvement in DAP, which was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court during the term of Pres. Aquino.
The alleged involvement of Sen. De Lima in the controversial DAP issue will add another misery of the life of the senator who was incarcerated since February 24 after being accused of pocketing money purpotedly collected from illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City when she was still the Justice Secretary.
The Department of Justice has filed three cases against De Lima for alleged violation of Anti-Dangerous Drugs Act, in connection with her supposed drug links inside the national penitentiary. She is currently detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
Pres. Duterte also hinted that aside from De Lima, some government officials would also face charges as he opted not to enforce "selective justice." For the past few years, no members of the Yellow Party was facing charges up to this time.
The President also said that a case would be filed against Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, for alleged misuse of DAP.
