The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) the country's largest government-run medical institutions is no longer cash-straped and resource-starved medical facility under the Duterte administration. President Rody Duterte allocates P100 million a month in funding aside from the provisions from the DOH and DSWD.
According to PGH's Medical Director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi, Pres. Duterte saves the country's largest hospital which was neglected during the previous administrations.
Dr. Gerardo Legaspi was quoted as saying "Now we have money and resources from the Department of Health (DOH), from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and from the Office of the President,” Legaspi says. “And the biggest component of this funding is from President Duterte," the PGH head added.
According to PGH "We have P100 million a month in funding from Malacañang, and it will be topped up if we can finish it. A month!” Dr. Gerardo Legaspi confirmed.
The DOH also included us in their hospital development plan, and the DSWD put their program here,” he says. “Outpatients get free medication worth anywhere from P5,000 to 10,000 a month.
The veteran neurosurgeon also siad that the hospital is now reorienting its systems to be able to utilize these resources-in stark contrast to the previous situation of constant want during the previous admin.
Under the Duterte admin, the PGH improved greatly, no longer will visitors see people lying on gurneys along the corridors or long lines of indigent patients in long queues waiting to be admitted. There were fewer dark hospital rooms and crowded charity wards with only the barest of medical facilities.
The PGH now features an airy new hospital wing with fresh paint, shiny tiles and a (relatively) affordable presidential suite to accommodate more affluent patients wanting to be treated by PGH's medical staff renowned of its expertise.
