The Philippine Coast will add seven (7) more new helicopters for their fleet as part of the country's maritime disaster response and to strengthen and expand the Philippine Coast Guard's capability to respond to maritime incidents particularly during natural calamities.
During the ICC-Cabinet Committee meeting held last Friday, August 11, 2017, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III announced the approval of the procurement plans for the Philippine Coast Guard.
Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III is the chairman of ICC-Cabinet Committee which was also co-chaired by NEDA Director-General Ernesto Pernia.
The new seven helicopters approved by the Department of Finance is needed by the Philippine Coast Guard to strengthen and expand the agency's capability to respond to maritime incidents.
The Department of Finance (DOF) also revealed that the procurement worth of PHP5.887 billion will include training of pilots and technical crew; purchase of mission equipment, maintenance tools and spare parts; construction of hangars; and project procurement.
Sec. Dominguez also stated that the project proposal to acquire seven new helicopters will now go to NEDA Board chaired by no less than Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte for final approval before implementation.
The good news about the possible acquisition of seven new helicopters came a few days after the PCG's fifth Multi-Role Response Vessel - Suluan (MRRV-4406) was formally received by the Philippine Coast from Japan at the PCG Headquarters, in South Harbor, Port Area, Manila.
