The announcement of Pres. Rody Duterte that Police Chief Inspector (PCI) Jovie Espenido will be assigned to Iloilo City made headlines in the mainstream and social media but during the time of former President PNoy Aquino, Mayor Jed Mabilog was admired by the former President.
During the SONA 2014 of Pres. PNoy, he gave credit to Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog for standing ten feet tall, because not all past and incumbent mayors in the country have the privilege to be recognized by the President delivering the SONA.
Ex-Pres. PNoy mentioned Mayor Jed Mabilog and Mayor Len Alonte of Biñan City, Laguna in his SONA:
"Mayroon tayong mga umaangat na bagong o mas bata sa akin sa pulitiko. Ayoko naman ho sabihin na napakaluma ko nang pulitiko sa pagtukoy sa mga mas bata. Mga taong tulad ni Mayor Jed Mabilog at ni Mayor Len Alonte,"
Mayor Jed Mabilog is one of the leaders of the Liberal Party in the Province of Iloilo, right after he was mentioned by ex-Pres. PNoy on his SONA, thanked the President for the effort of mentioning his name during an important event in the country.
Mabilog was quoted as saying "Thank You very much President NoyNoy Aquino (PNoy) for the gesture and kind recognition! I am very humbled. I am Iloilo. PROUD TO BE FILIPINO."
Ex-President Aquino reportedly supports Mayor Jed Mabilog in his quest as a finalist in the World Mayor 2014. One of the reason why Iloilo City became closer to the heart of Pres. Aquino during his term was probably because of the influence of Sen. Franklin Drilon, a close relative of Mabilog from Molo district.
