Pres. Rody Duterte to Visit Saudi Arabia Starting Monday April 10, 2017

The tough-talking President of the Republic of the Philippines who is also considered as one of the most popular head of state in Asia is scheduled to visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from Monday, April 10, 2017 up to Thursday April 13.

Pres. Rody Duterte's visit to Saudi Arabia is a major news in the Middle East but not in the Philippines where most of the media companies are allegedly biased against the President. The President made headlines in Arab News, one of Saudi Arabia's leading news network.

In the Philippines most media companies did not report about the highly anticipated visit of Pres. Rody Duterte in the Middle East particularly in the cities of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Manama, Bahrain and Doha, Qatar.

Pres. Duterte is scheduled to meet with King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif. The 72-year-old President will also meet Filipino community members at the Marriot Hotel on Wednesday.

According to the organizers, only those who have registered for the event will be accommodated. There were also issues that involved some government officials in Saudi Arabia who allegedly prevented other Filipinos from attending the said event.

Based upon the initial assessment of the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, nearly 200 groups from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and other regions have been registered. Each group submitted a list of 10 members that will represent their respective groups.

The Philippine Embassy will provide the groups with names of their members who have been cleared and approved by authorities to attend the meeting with Pres. Duterte.

Aside from those who will meet and greet Pres. Duterte, community groups in various parts of the Kingdom have been busy in their preparations for the visit of the popular Philippine President. Ahead of his visit Middle Eastern investors already pledge a total of $500 worth of investments in Mindanao.

The OFW groups in Saudi Arabia wanted to talked with Pres. Duterte as they aim to request the President for the establishment of an OFW Department, creation of pension plans, reintegration program for OFWs and giving priority to OFWs in government positions among others.
