VACC Wants Ordinary Jail Cell for Sen. Leila De Lima (Video)

The chairperson of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) Dante Jimenez suggested to the Supreme Court of the Philippines to put Sen. Leila De Lima inside a regular jail cell and not at the Camp Crame Custodial Center.

Sen. Leila De Lima is currently detained at Camp Crame thereby suggesting that the senator received a special treatment from the country's Justice Department.

The VACC asked the Supreme Court to intervene with Sen. De Lima's case, they noted in a three-page letter to Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno that the "equal protection clause of the Constitution must be employed in De Lima's case, meaning she should be placed in a regular jail.

Dante Jimenez argued that Sen. De Lima should be under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

The VACC Chairman cited Republic Act 6975 or the law that established the PNP under the Department of Interior and Local Government.

In an interview with the media, Jimenez was quoted as saying "In our humble research and in existing laws or procedure to sustain or validate such an apparently undue than a special treatment.

Jimenez added further that the equal protection clause was violated because De Lima is in Camp Crame while former Corrections Chief Rafael Ragos is at the National Bureau of Investigation's Detention Cell and the senator's ex-boyfriend Ronnie Dayan is at Muntinlupa City Jail.
