Pres. Duterte Allocates P2-Billion Aid to Surigao Earthquake Victims

The tough-talking President of the Republic of the Philippines, Pres. Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte pledged Php2-billion worth of relief and recovery aid to all the survivors of the earthquake that hits Surigao del Norte.

Pres. Duterte's announcement on the allocations of P2-billion for earthquake victims was made during a speech before residents of Surigao City, one of the worst-hi areas of the magnitude 6.7 tremor.

During the speech of the very first President from Mindanao, he noted that the distribution of relief aid in the poverty-stricken province encountered slight delays due to unavailable aircraft and damaged infrastructure, particularly the Surigao City Airport.

The 71-year-old President of the Philippines also led the distribution of drinking water and food packs and he also met with the local officials in Surigao and its neighboring towns.

According to the LGUs in the areas affected by the earthquake, power and water services remained down in parts of Surigao City and outlying towns on Sunday.

PHIVOLCS also revealed that over 100 aftershocks, including a magnitude 4.9 tremor, have rocked Surigao City in the heels of Friday's earthquake.

The immediate personal visit of Pres. Rody Duterte in the quick-stricken areas impressed the residents and netizens who were supporters of the President but the mainstream media keeps on reporting the late arrival of Pres. Duterte instead of focusing on the relief efforts made by the administration.
