DA Awards P6.3 Million Worth of Agriculture Rehabilitation Assistance to Marinduque

The Department of Agriculture under the leadership of Sec. Manny PiƱol awarded a total of P6.3 million worth of agricultural assistance to the Province of Marinduque as part of the government's rehabilitation program for both agriculture and fishery industry badly damaged by Bagyong Nina.


DA Sec. PiƱol led the distribution of equipment to almost 500 affected farmers and fisherfolk during the stakeholders' consultation in Boac, Marinduque on January 5, 2017.

The Duterte administration proved how fast their action is in typhoon devastated areas after the released the rehabilitation assistance to farmers.

According to the Department of Agriculture the rehabilitation assistance includes 1,000 bags of certified palay seeds, 50 bags of OPV white corn seeds, 50 bags of ordinary hybrid corn sees, 40 kilos of assorted vegetable seeds, 30,000 pieces of coffee planting materials, 65,000 pieces of cacao planting materials, 65 heads of upgraded dairy goats, 35, 376 pieces of drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry industry and 50 marine engines.

Sec. Manny PiƱol who personally visited the province also announced the establishment of the Provincial Lakatan Nursery amounting to P10 million to propagate the production of banana industry in the province.


The hardworking DA Secretary announced during the distribution event that the Agriculture Department will buy the Lakatan seeds from the farmers of Marinduque and nurtured it in the new facility and then be given back to the farmers to promulgate the banana plantation business in the province.

DA also made a consultations with farmers and fisherfolks as the secretary addressed concerned including rampant cases of dynamite fishing in the province and insurance for crops and boats damaged during the onslaught of the typhoon.

Sec. Manny PiƱol also recommended the creation of the National Cooperative for Farmers and Fisherfolk, which will help in the monitoring of cooperatives in the country. The creation of coops will provide the residents control on the movement of their own goods and the government under the Duterte presidency will always be there to help.

In the Province of Marinduque, one of the few provinces in the Philippines neglected most often by the national government, Bagyong Nina has damaged 1,431 hectares (ha) of rice areas and 33 hectares of corn areas.
