P4.8 Billion Bacolod Economic Highway (BEH) Bidding Starts Next Week, Construction in 2017

The first major project in the Negros Island Region (NIR) worth P4.8 billion under the administration of Pres. Rody Duterte, the P4.8 billion Bacolod Economic Highway (BEH) will start next week. The first phase of the project is the bidding process while the construction is expected as early as 2017.


Bacolod City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya announced on Wednesday, December 21 that the Department of Public Works and Highway-Negros Island Region (DPWH-NIR) will start the construction next year.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA), Rep. Gasataya was quoted as saying "With this development, it is clear that by 2017, there will be a construction of the BEH."

The lawmaker also noted that out of the P4.8 billion budget, P300 million will be used for payments to the affected landowners and for civil works.



The DPWH-NIR started negotiating with landowners as early as September particularly those residents and landowners who will be affected in the construction of the 24-kilometer highway.

About 100 landowners were affected with the major infrastructure project in Negros Island, right after the study conducted on affected areas, the DPWH discussed the project with the city officials of Bacolod and affected landowners.

The 24-kilometer Bacolod Economic Highway (BEH) will cover areas across Barangays Sum-ag, Cabug, Felisa, Handumanan, Mansilingan, Estefania, Granada, Mandalagan, and Bata, Bacolod City.

The first major project of the Duterte administration in Bacolod City, the BEH is seen to open a new growth area in the city, and improve the traffic situation since an alternative route will be constructed according to Rep. Gasataya.
