Knicks set to buyouts World Peace and Udrih's contracts

Two players who are signed in the offseason to have a great impact in the Knicks team but didn't delivered as expected are set to buy out their contracts.

Al Iannazzone of Newsday first reported the transaction that reportedly the New York Knicks decided to release Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih.

The 34-year-old veteran World Peace signed as a free agent this past summer, but he has struggled to get onto the court and is only averaging 13.4 minutes in 29 games this year. His average of 4.8 points per game would be the lowest of his 15-year career.

Things have been even worse lately as he has only entered in six games since the start of January, totaling only 13 points in that stretch.

Meanwhile, Udrih has not appeared in a game since Jan. 24 when he scored three points in a win against the Charlotte Bobcats. This came shortly after the point guard requested a trade, according to ESPN's Ian Begley.

Udrih is averaging 5.6 points and 3.5 assists in limited minutes this season, but he has made 42.5 percent of his shots from behind the arc. With his shooting ability and experience, it will likely not take long for him to find another job.

If the move pushes through, expect the two players to be signed immediately with other teams because of the two's championships experiences.

World Peace is the starting small forward of the 2010-2011 champion Los Angeles Lakers while Udrih is part of the 2006-2007 champion team of the San Antonio Spurs where he is a back-up to starting point guard Tony Parker.

This continues a negative trend for the Knicks after a poor summer worth of moves.

With a 21-34 record and time running out to make the playoffs, this is just another issue in a disappointing year for New York.

The Knicks are currently 11th in the East and three spots away of entering the Playoffs

The Knicks are still pushing for a playoff berth this season and by unloading non-contributing players means they can sign some notable free agents that could help their campaign this season.
