Sen. Hontiveros Claims First Year of Pres. Duterte a "Dangerous Year to be a Woman"

Former PhilHealth board member who won a senatorial seat during the 2016 elections, Sen. Risa Hontiveros claimed during an interview with the media that the First Year of Pres. Duterte is a "Dangerous Year to be a Woman."

Sen. Hontiveros was quoted as saying "The first year of the Duterte government is a dangerous year to be a woman. It is marked by a colossal human rights crisis. It is the year of misogyny and extrajudicial killings It is a year of national grieving,” Hontiveros said.

The statement of Sen. Risa Hontiveros was released during a women's forum at the Ateneo de Manila University on Friday, June 30, 2017. The transcript of her speech during the meeting was released to media.

Sen. Hontiveros, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Women, slammed Pres. Duterte for his "profound, palpable hatred and persecution of women leaders who dare stand up to the blatant disregard for human life."

Instead of getting positive response from netizens, the statement of Sen. Hontiveros did not sit well among the supporters of Pres. Duterte who believes in his advocacy particularly his war on drugs.

According to a netizen who reacted to Sen. Hontiveros statement, nobody wants to listen to Hontiveros anymore except for those media who is always working beside her. Another netizen also noted that what Sen. Hontiveros thought is not what an intelligent woman and a senator thinks and noted further that a lot of people were very very disappointed for voting Sen. Hontiveros.
