Philippine Marines Recovered P52 Million Cash & P27 Million Checks Inside Maute Positions in Marawi


Speculations in social media that the ISIS-inspired Maute Group was funded by some powerful narco-politicians is now getting clearer as the Philippine Marines recovered P52 million in cash inside a house in Marawi City once occupied by the terrorist group.

Aside from the P52 million cash recovered, the Marines also discovered the P27 million-worth of checks.

According to the Philippine Marines, the cash and checks was discovered and recovered inside an abandoned house which was used as a machine gun position by the armed terror group Maute.

The Joint Task Force Marawi took the cash and checks for safekeeping after the military made an inventory of the valuables.


For the past few weeks, the Maute Group in coordination with some foreign fighters and other local terrorist groups stormed Marawi City and has been battling government troops since May 23. The gestures of the terrorist group is reportedly to protect the "emir" or leader of ISIS in the Philippines, Isnilon Hapilon, who is believed to be in the area.

The veteran Abu Sayyaf leader, Isnilon Hapilon is allegedly working with the Maute Group, one of the popular terrorist group in Lanao del Sur, who showcased their power when they attacked the town of Butig but later on withdrew. Hapilon is coordinating with Abu Sayyaf to allegedly establish a "wilayat," or caliphate of ISIS in Lanao del Sur.

Pres. Rody Duterte already declared Martial Law in Mindanao and suspend the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus due to the ongoing violence in Marawi City.
