The first and only President from Mindanao, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed the highly anticipated Freedom of Information (FOI) Executive Order as announced by Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar.

During an official announcement to the media, Sec. Andanar revealed that Pres. Duterte signed the Executive Order on Freedom of Information (FOI) in Davao City on July 24, 2016.

The announcement of Pres. Duterte's signing of the FOI as made in Davao City as Sec. Andanar formally announced in a press conference at the Royal Mandaya Hotel in Davao City that the President signed the EO on FOI.

Sec. Andanar was quoted as saying "at 7 PM, 23 July 2016 in Davao City, on the 25th day of office as President of the Republic of the Philippines. Pres. Duterte signed the cornerstone, Executive Order called the FOI" Andanar said.

The newly signed E.O. will operationalize the people's constitutional right to information and state policies of full public disclosure and transparancey in the public service. This encompasses access to information, official records, public records, papers, and documents of official acts, transactions or decisions, and the government research data.
