The alleged biased news media outlet, Rappler Inc., one of the fastest growing news media company in the Philippines is no longer registered with the powerful Securities and Exchange Commission after SEC ordered the revocation of news website Rappler's certificate of registration.
According to SEC's decision, Rappler allegedly violated the Foreign Equity Restriction of the Philippine Constitution, which states that the ownership and management of mass media shall be limited to citizens of the Philippines, or to corporations, cooperatives or associations, wholly-owned and managed by such citizens.
Rappler's prominent figures such as the veteran journalist Maria Ressa has called the decision as "pure and simple harassment," noting its critical coverage by the Duterte administration.
