SONA 2017 Fashion, Dresses & Attires of Lawmakers and Their Escorts: Shuns the Usual Pageantry

The House of Representatives and the Philippine Senate proved once and for all that they have already departed from the usual pageantry and extravagant in terms of SONA fashion which already became a tradition of the past few Presidents but not until Pres. Duterte came to office.

Pres. Duterte reiterated during his assumptions to the presidency that both Houses of Congress should depart from extravagant and pageantry on time for the President's State of the Nation Address (SONA).

On Monday, July 24, 2017, Pres. Rody Duterte delivered his second SONA featuring a well-dressed members of Congress and their escorts dramatizing a simple and populist character. Although Pres. Duterte shuns the usual pomp and pageantry, wearing tuxedos, evening gowns, or elaborate outfits, are not prohibited but discouraged.

For the second time around in time for Pres. Duterte's SONA, just like the previous year, the attire is still business or Barong for men, and business attire or Filipiniana dress at knee length for women.

Just like the previous years, Sen. Nancy Binay caught the attentions of netizens as she wore a modern-style barong paired with black palazzo tuxedo pants and sporting an impressive new hair.

Sen. Grace Poe looked chic and classy in a white terno with black and white intricate details on the outlines of her top. Actress Heart Evangelista, wife of Sen. Chiz Escudero flaunts her white modern Filipiniana.

Last year Pres. Rody Duterte defined his personal style by simply donning a Barong Tagalog with rolled-up sleeves and paired with dark-colored pants. This year, Pres. Duterte will wear his signature-style Barong Tagalog and as told by his designers from Davao City, his barong will feature a Maranao-inspired embroidery and design.
