Sen. Richard Gordon Proposes to Used the Brgy. & SK Election Budget for Marawi City Rehabilitation

One of the country's brilliant lawmaker, Sen. Richard Gordon made a proposal to use the funds of the Brgy. & SK Election for the rehabilitation of Marawi City.

Based upon the proposals of Sen. Richard Gordon, the Barangay and SK Elections should be postponed to save around P6.5 Billion funds which will be used for Marawi City instead.

Sen. Gordon was quoted as saying "Postpone Brgy. and SK elections. Save the P6.5 billion funds for Marawi instead.  Ang mga abusadong kapitan, kasuhan kaliwa at kanan. We need everyone to do their part extra especially so now. Brgy. Capts are the little mayors who should make sure their barangays are free from drugs, insurgents and terrorists. You community. Your Watch," Sen. Gordon stated.

According to Sen. Gordon the government would be able to save P6.5 billion with the deferment of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections set for October 23, 2017.

The veteran lawmaker and chairman of Philippine Red Cross (PRC) explained that instead of spending money for the conduct of the elections, Sen. Gordon said that the Philippine government should just focus on the Marawi situation.

The senator also noted that if it were up to him, the next barangay elections could be held either in 2018 or in 2022 instead of this year. The proposal of Sen. Gordon was also warmly welcomed by the Liga ng mga Barangay in Quezon City.
