The Department of Transportation under the leadership of Secretary Arthur Tugade and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) headed by Sec. Mark Villar leads the ground breaking ceremony of the BGC-Ortigas Center Link Project on Wednesday, July 19, 2017.

The BGC-Ortigas Center Link Project is one of the major project of Pres. Rody Duterte in Metro Manila which aims to shortened travel time from BGC to Ortigas to just 12 minutes as revealed by the DOTr.

The project includes the construction of Sta. Monica to Lawton Bridge and Lawton Avenue to Global City Viaduct, crossing the popular Pasig River.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar told ANC in an interview that the construction time for the bridge will take approximately 2 years. Sec. Villar also said that the Duterte admin is planning to construct 12 bridges that will cross Pasig River as part of efforts to decongest existing road networks in Metro Manila until 2022.

Sec. Villar was quoted as saying "We have approximately 28 now, when we finish we will have 40," Villar said. "We will be building a minimum of 12 bridges across the Pasig River under the term of Pres. Duterte.

The DPWH Secretary also added further that "We also want to focus on people who walk, who use bikes, for the environment and also to service people, we want to just make a more conducive environment," Sec. Villar added.

DOTr on their part announced earlier that two of the bridges to be constructed will be funded and build by China. These are the state-of-the-art Binondo-Intramuros Bridge in Manila and Estrella -Pantaleon Bridge in Makati or Mandaluyong area.
