P100-Million Worth of Shabu Recovered by Philippine Army from Maute Group in Marawi City


President Rody Duterte once said that the Maute-ISIS Group is financed by drug money and the national government is not fighting a religious war but a drug war as what can be seen in the latest updates in Marawi City.


The Philippine Army recovered 11 kilograms of suspected shabu worth more than P100 million on Sunday evening following an encounter with ISIS-inspired Maute Group in one of the country's largest Muslim community in Marawi City.

Lt. Col. Emmanuel Garcia, 4th Civil Relations Group Commander said that soldiers from the 49th Infantry Battalion recovered the shabu seized four high-powered firearms around 6:00 PM.

The Philippine Army noted that the street value of the seized illegal drugs is estimated to be between P110 to P250 million. During various skirmishes against the Maute Group, the Philippine Army have observed that the terrorists were high on illegal drugs when they face the government forces.

Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr., Western Mindanao Command Chief called the recovered P100-million worth of shabus is considered as the "largest illegal drug haul so far" in the ongoing clashes between the military ang the Maute Group in Marawi City.
