BIFF Insurgents Raided Two Barangays in Pigcawayan, North Cotabato (Updates)


Suspected members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) insurgents stormed and raided two barangays in Pigcawayan, North Cotabato on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at around 5:45 AM.



Barangays Simsiman and Malagakit in Pigcawayan was raided by an undetermined number of suspected BIFF members. The insurgents held hostage at least 15 individuals from 3 families in Barangay Malagakit, six of the hostages were pupils of the Malagakit Elementary School.

Aside from the attack in Malagakit, a school in Brgy. Simsiman was also ransacked by the suspects, a guard escapted and sought shelter at an Army outpost nearby.

The Local Government Units (LGUs) of Pigcawayan, North Cotabato suspended classes in all levels in Pigcawayan's West District.

Aside from Pigcawayan, neighboring town Midsayap through Maor Romeo Arana also declared suspension of classes in his town.

As of posting time there is no casualties on the government side. The authorities also revealed the leaders of the attackers who were alleged members of BIFF, they were Commander Aguila, OB10, and Abunawas.

Updates on the Pigcawayan incident as of June 21, 2017.

1. Undetermined number of suspected Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) stormed and raided Barangays Simsiman and Malagakit in Pigcawayan, North Cotabato, around 545 a.m., Wednesday.

2. At least 15 individuals from 3 families in Barangay Malagakit were held hostage by the armed men. Six of them were pupils of the Malagakit Elementary School.

3. A school in Brgy Simsiman was ransacked by the suspects. A guard escaped and sought shelter at an Army outpost nearby.

4. Classes are suspended in all levels in Pigcawayan's west district.

5. Midsayap Mayor Romeo Arana declared suspension of classes in his town.

6. No casualties on the government side.

7. The attackers are led by Commanders Aguila, OB10, and Abunawas from the BIFF.

8. At least 62 families from Barangay Malagakit and 15 families from Barangay Banogacon, all in Pigcawayan, evacuated to safer areas to prevent from being caught in crossfires. They are housed temporarily in Poblacion, Pigcawayan, and nearby villages.
