Pres. Duterte Personally Thanks Sultan Bolkiah and the People of Brunei


During the first official state visit of President Rody Duterte to Brunei he personally thanked its leader Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and the people of Brunei for their hospitality to him and his entire team.

Pres. Duterte gave his speech of giving gratitude to Brunei in a state banquet hosted by the Sultan of Brunei held at the Istana Nurul Iman, the official residence of the Sultan.

The 71-year-old Pres. Duterte acknowledged the help of Brunei to the thousands of Overseas Filipino Workers working in Brunei. According to Pres. Duterte, the hospitality of Brunei and the contributions for the peace process in Mindanao were some of the few gestures he was thankful about.

During the event, the two leaders reaffirmed the strong ties between Brunei and the Philippines.

Sultan Bolkiah also made a remark during the banquet by saying that "My Government and the people of Brunei Darussalam join me in extending a very warm welcome to you on your first visit here. Your presence reaffirms the excellent and long-standing friendship so happily enjoyed by the people of our two countries,” Bolkiah said in his remarks.

The Sultan of Brunei added further that "We, in Brunei, admire your personal achievements as the Mayor of Davao in making the city business-friendly and attaining impressive economic growth,” Bolkiah added.

And with this, he expressed confidence that under Duterte’s leadership, Davao’s success will be replicated throughout the Philippines and bring inclusive growth to the Filipino people.
