Police Chief Named a former DOJ Secretary Listed in a Record Book of Drug Transaction

Albuera, Leyte Police Chief Jovie Espenido revealed to the media that a senator's name who previously worked as Secretary of the Department of Justice is allegedly in a record book of drug transactions of arrested town Mayor Rolando Espinosa.

The police chief confirmed through a news report posted by CNN Philippines that a senator's name was involved in various transactions with the arrested town mayor. According to Police Chief Espenido he saw the name of the high-profile senator in a logbook of transactions kept by alleged drug lord Mayor Rolando Espinosa.

The Mayor of Albuera town, Mayor Rolando Espinosa was arrested on October 5, 2016 and he was charged with illegal possesion of dangerous drugs and firearms.

In an interview with CNN, Police Chief confirmed that he saw the senator's name as he was quoted as saying "May [pangalan ng] senador nga nakita ko - dating secretary ng DOJ [Department of Justice] siguro iyon," police chief Espenido said.

Rough Translation: I saw [the name of] a senator - perhaps that of former Department of Justice Secretary.

Although the Police Chief of Albuera town did not mention the name of the senator involved in the illegal drug trades and has linked to suspected drug lord Mayor Rolando Espinosa some netizens speculates that the name is no other than Sen. Leila De Lima who previously worked as DOJ Secretary under the Aquino administration.

The police chief's statement comes after he filed on Wednesday a case of illegal possession of dangerous drugs against De Lima before the Ombudsman in the Tacloban City, the provincial capital of Leyte.
