One of the world's smallest but most powerful and influential country Israel is willing to work with the Philippine government under the Duterte administration in the country's campaign to get rid of the widespread drug menace.
The illegal drug trades in the Philippines affected millions of Filipinos although more than 700,000 had surrendered out of the estimated 4 million victims, the Duterte administration is under constant attack from the opposition on his handling of the drug problems in the country.
According to Israel Ambassador Effie Ben Matityahu, there is no country in the world that is spared of the illegal drugs problem but as one of the world's most influential state, Israel promised to cooperate with the Duterte admin and share their know-ho in handling the issue.
In an interview with the local media, the Israeli Ambassador was quoted as saying "The illegal-drugs trade is global. It is an industry that is present and being distributed worldwide. It is a constant struggle against its supply and infrastructure. We are willing to share information and best practices. We can all learn from one another,” Matityau said.
He added: “Socially and economically, illegal drugs combine to make a disaster. It is a major destabilizer of society. It can destroy families.”
Ambassador Matityau even noted that in the Middle East, the spread of illegal drugs can be directly related to terrorist groups but he also suggested that the problem of illegal drugs differs from one country to another and there is no singular solution to the menace.
The Israeli Ambassador added further that the best solution toward controlling the illegal-drugs problem is through education and believed that it can act as a preventive measures in its use spread. In Israel with just 8 million people, they were able to control the drug problems because of good police works.
