Pres. Duterte & Pres. Obama Meeting Moved to a Later Date After Cancellation

The cancelled meeting between the two leaders of the Republic of the Philippines and the United States of America which was cancelled earlier was moved to a later date according to the announcement released to the media by Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar.

During the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Laos, PCO Secretary Martin Andanar clarified the issue of the cancelled meeting between US President Barrack Obama and Philippine Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.

Various bias news media outlets not only from the Philippines but from different parts of the world sensationalized the cancelled meeting between the two leaders as they claimed that alleged offensive remarks of Pres. Duterte at Pres. Obama was the reason of the cancellation.

Instead of reporting that the offensive remarks was intended for the bias media, various news outlet reported that the remarks was intended for the US President.

Pres. Obama just told the media that when he goes out to meetings, he wants it to become productive.

Meanwhile, Sec. Andanar read a statement before the foreign press, quoted the President as saying:

"While the immediate cause was my strong comments to certain press questions that elicited concern and distress, we also regret it came across as a personal attack on the US President."

Pres. Duterte added further "Our primary concern is to chart an independent foreign policy while promoting closer ties with all nations, especially the US with which we have had a long standing partnership," Pres. Duterte said.

Sec. Martin Andanar on his personal capacity also noted that "We look forward to ironing out differences arising, out of national priorities and perceptions, and working in mutually responsible ways for both countries" Andanar said.
