Viral Now: Oil Deposits Accidentally Discovered in Iloilo While Drilling for Water


In the province of Iloilo, electricity is considered as scarce but a recent discovery made the people in the province to hope for the best as residents of Brgy. Bagumbong in the town of Barotac Nuevo, considered as the football capital of the Philippines, accidentally discovered a huge deposits of alleged oil or natural gas.

The discovery happened during the time when workers were drilling for water to be used on the irrigations of rice fields in their barangay. The residents were shocked when fire sparked at the drilling area, the incident happened last May 13, 2016 but it was only reported recently to the local media in the province.

According to Ronnie Palermo, one of the workers in an interview with a local radio station, RMN Iloilo, the water became viscous and suddenly fire catches it up when one of the wokers lighted a cigarette near the drilling area.

Some workers confirmed the incident as one of the resident caught the entire incident on his camera and posted it on Facebook. There is no clear explanation yet whether the mineral was natural gas or oil, but according to some comments on Facebook there is a high possibility that the area is rich in natural gas.
