Palace Slams De Lima's Statement of Ouster Plan Against VP Leni as Initiated by Pres. Duterte (Video Report)
The Palace slammed the statement released by Sen. Leila De Lima as they branded the accusations of the detained senator as "prison hallucination," after her remarks that Pres. Duterte is allegedly behind a plot to unseat VP Leni Robredo and tap Sen. Bongbong Marcos to replace him.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque reminded the lawmaker who served as DOJ Secretary during the term of former Pres. Noynoy Aquino that it was not within Pres. Duterte's power to unseat a Vice President but the Supreme Court's.
In a text message to the media, Spox Harry Roque was quoted as saying "Prison hallucination. Fate of VP (Vice President) is with SC (Supreme Court) and not the Pres(ident),” Roque said in a text message.
Sen. Leila De Lima claimed that Pres. Duterte was “demolishing the public image of VP Leni” to make it easier for him “to sell Marcos's hovering fraudulent victory at the PET to the Filipino people.”
She also described this plan as a “Duterte-sponsored Marcos comeback.” Pres. Duterte earlier expressed plans to step down from his office as the country's chief executive if Sen. Marcos wins his election case against VP Leni Robredo. The Prsident even said that he found Robredo unqualified to be President.
Pres. Duterte also stood by his belief that Naga City, Roberdo’s hometown, is a “hotbed of shabu” claiming that the Vice President’s brother-in-law, Butch Robredo, is involved in the illegal drug trade.
De Lima is presently detained in Camp Crame over drug trafficking charges which stemmed from the proliferation of illegal drugs in the New Bilibid Prison during her term as justice secretary.
