Philippines Longest Bridge (Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge) Construction to Start this Year 2018


Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) confirmed during his visit to Bacolod City that the Philippines longest bridge project, the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge will start its construction this year 2018 and to be finished before Pres. Duterte's term ends.


The DPWH assured the residents of Negros Occidental during his visit in Negros Occidental for the inauguration of the Araneta-Magsaysay Flyover in Bacolod City.

According to Sec. Villar the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge will be made through a grant from China and the construction will start this year 2018.

In an interview with the local media in Bacolod City, Sec. Villar was quoted as saying "They [China] volunteered to do the feasibility study for free and the construction of the bridge will be simultaneous," he stated.



The Duterte admin estimates that the budget for the 19-kilometer bridge is around $2 billion and considered as one of the most ambitious infrastructure project of the Duterte admin aside from the Metro Manila Subway and the Mindanao Railway Project.

Once completed, the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge will be the longest in the Philippines, it comprised of six kilometer-bridge from Iloilo to Guimaras while the Guimaras to Negros bridge link is around 13 kilometers.

The longest bridge in the Philippines right now is the Marcos-era San Juanico Bridge connecting the islands of Samar and Leyte spanning two kilometers long and considered as one of the Philippine icon in infrastructure development during the presidency of the late Ferdinand Marcos.
