Israel Helps in Upgrading Philippine Military's Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC)

The Jewish nation of Israel which is known worldwide as one of the most popular military supplier is now helping the Philippine government particularly in the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Israel's Elbit Systems Land and Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) will be upgrading the firepower of the Philippine Military.

According to the Department of National Defense, Israel's Elbit Systems will upgrade the firepower of the Philippine Army's 44 M113A2 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) and convert 5 M113A2s into mortar carriers.

The Duterte administration confirmed the news after the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) for the said project on November 29, 2017 amounting to P1,051,650,000.

Popular Facebook Page MaxDefense Philippines also stated on their page that the M113A2 upgrading project will be through a negotiated procurement which is still under Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Modernization First Horizon second list.

In the said project, a total of 44 APCs will be armed with 12.7mm machine guns in Remote Controlled Weapons station (RCWS) and 5 APCs will be converted into mortar carriers armed with Soltam 81mm Cardoom Mortar.

The M1132A APCs to be upgraded are part of 113 M1132A APCs transferred by the United States government to the Philippines through its Excess Defense Article (EDA) Program in 2015.

Meanwhile, the popular Israeli company, Elbit already delivered 28 refurbished and upgraded APCs to Philippine Military with contract price of PHP882 million, signed in 2014. Upgrades included installation of 25mm unmanned turrets, 12.7mm remote controlled weapon systems (RCWS), fire control systems (FCS), for 90mm turrets, and conversion to recovery units.
