The very first President from Mindanao approved the launch of the national government's satellite network or GSN in 2018 according to the statement revealed to the media by Presidential Communications Operations Office Head Martin Andanar on Wednesday, December 6, 2017.

According to PCOO Chief Martin Andanar, the President gave his nod during the 20th Cabinet Meeting held at MalacaƱang on Tuesday, December 5.

The President's vision for a well-connected Philippines will be felt by ordinary citizens through the establishment of the GSN which will be implemented by the Presidential Communications Office (PCOO) headed by veteran journalist Martin Andanar.

PCOO Head Andanar said that the GSN will be the government's tool for transmission of its cretaed content, such as video, photos, and audio all throughout the country, especially to remote areas, using "advance satellite and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) technology."

Sec. Andanar was quoted as saying "The GSN can transmit government video, image, audio and data content to the islands and hinterlands of the Philippines and the rest of world using advance satellite and IPTV technology," Andanar said.

He said the network would also provide two way or multiple tele-conference communication, internet delivery capability and multiple TV channels.

PCOO Head Andanar also revealed that the state-owned satellite network (GSN) can be inaugurated in around 42,000 villages' halls, all PCOO's attached agencies, and offices all throughout the country in six months, if all necessary legal work and bidding processes are "ironed out."
