Must Watch: Highlights of the Senate Probe on "Fake News" (Oct. 4, 2017)


The Senate Committee on Mass Media started the investigation on the proliferation of fake news in the Philippines during the past few months as they invited some of the most influential figures in social media as well as the mainstream media.



During the Senate Investigation on Fake News, Sen. Grace Poe stated that fake news cultivates a culture of lying, which can create a lynch mobs turning them character assassins.

Sen. Poe was quoted as saying "Baka lumaki ang mga bata na intolerant sa opinion ng iba at madaling maniwala sa haka-haka." "They need to understand that they can disagree without being disagreeable"

The senator also noted that government officials who proliferate fake news should be held accountable.

Sen. Tito Sotto on his part stated that these criminals who are hiding using false accounts are considered coward. He was quoted as saying "Titirahin ang gobyerno nagtatago sa likod ng mga computer," he said.

Sen. Manny Pacquiao also made a manifestation on resolution condoning the alleged extrajudicial killings (EJKs) in the Philippines. For him "Hindi tama na sabihin na hindi pumirma ang isang tao na hindi nabigyan ng pagkakataong pumirma.

The professional boxer turned politician revealed that "Ni anino ng resolution hindi ko nakita, hindi ito nagkataon lang, ito ay sinadya." "Si Sen. de Lima a nakakulong nakapirma."

Sen. Pacquiao added further that "Hindi kami ipinanganak kahapon para hindi namin malaman ang katangahan na ginagawa sa'min`" "Nasanay na ko diyan sa pangmamaliit sa social media pero hindi dahil nasanay na ko ay palalagpasin ko na," the senator stated.
