PAO Called Out Sen. Hontiveros for Refusing to Turn Over the Witnesses to Kian's Killing

Akbayan lawmaker and controversial senator Risa Hontiveros came under fire from social media after the Public Attorney's Office (PAO) called out the senator for refusing to turn over the witnesses to Kian Lloyd delos Santos' killing.

PAO Chief Persida Acosta criticized Sen. Risa Hontiveros, one of the critics of Pres. Duterte's "War on Drugs," saying that together with the PNP, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Department of Justice (DOJ), has the mandate to protect the three witnesses because delos Santos family has chosen the PAO to handle their complaint.

Sen. Hontiveros on her part explained that the witnesses of the 17-year-old Kian Delos Santos, two of them were identified as minors, have initially sought help from her office.

The statement of Sen. Hontiveros was debunked by one of the mother of the minor witness who testified that the senator did not seek permission from them to take custody of their child who will be used as a witness.

The three witnesses, two of them minors aged 13 and 16, were brought to the Child Protection Unit of the Philippine General Hospital in Manila, where representatives from the NBI and the Commission on Human Rights took their statements about the filling.

Meanwhile PAO Chief Atty. Acosta has requested Sen. Hontiveros to turn over the custody of the witnesses to DOJ. PAO said it will assist the delos Santos family in filing their complaints against the cops who killed the minor.
